Can I do this technique on a melamine paint? I just painted my coffee table turquoise, and it looks weird without distressing and needs something to create some depth. The table was not real wood, does that matter? Love your videos, just found you ❤

thank you for this informative video! great job. I understand that this glazing technique works well with the types of furniture that have frames, curves, engravings etc. where the glaze stays after wiping, but what if I need to glase a simple painted stool that doesn't have those? Its very basic stool, just legs and the top, and I wonder what stays and where when I cover it with the glaze and wipe afterwards. I painted it in nice yellow, but wanted to add some used antique look with dark edges and some dark patina around the joints. But the issue is that using your technique the glaze at the edges, where I do want it to stay, will most probaly get wiped off. What do you think I shall do to make it look like a want? And would the whole thing work if I use watered down dark acrylic paint over the main layer of paint, also acrylic? thank you!

Hi. Thanks for this video. I am stripping kitchen cabinet doors- I used the Blue Bear Paint & Urethane stripper. My kitchen cabinets have NO PAINT but have some sort of varnish and maybe a light stain though im not sure of the stain- the doors are solid maple wood. I unscrewed the doors and laid them flat on a table, applied a thick layer of the stripper, waited 3 hr 30 mins and scraped. I did not see much difference. So i cleaned off the side of the doors that i had done, left them to dry a bit, flipped them over and applied a thick layer to the other side. Im leaving them overnight and covered 6 doors with plastic drop cloth as i didnt have the clingy wrap with me. Ill know how this works tomorrow....

A lot of extra work for milkpaint. Yes, do ALL that for all other paint. With milkpaint, a good cleaning and then simply add the bonding agent. I've successfully used this method for all my milkpaint jobs, including kitchen cabinets, unless it was raw wood, which doesn't require bonding agent

I think it makes sense to always start on the same side, but vary the lengths that you apply. That way, you only have to trim to fit on one side.

Never been able to get general finishes water poly to work with a brush on any large surface, not even coffee table size. Wont level, as well as brush strokes. Have to roll it or use a paint pad. Spray would be best of course.

Just remember if you're using a water based poly you'll probably want to do more than three coats. If have to for my stair treads. It's a stairway to the basement so an oil based is not practical because of the smell. I don't want to lose brain cells, TYVM.

Thanks! Just a little comment: water based dries faster than oil based, hence, IMHO, using a foam brush instead of bristles would be more appropriate since it leaves no bristle traces (traces which can flatten out with oil based poly, having the time to so so, but not with water based poly). If I did this very often, I would invest on a couple of high quality bristle brushes since they're the most polyvalent, but if it's just for one project or two with a _water_ based finish, using 2$ (max) foam brushes is a winner.
